A management survey is an inspection of a building or structure to identify any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs). This survey is intended to locate any asbestos that could potentially be disturbed or damaged during normal use of the building. A management survey is required under UK law for all non-domestic buildings built before 2000.
A refurbishment or demolition survey is required when a building or structure is undergoing major renovations or is slated for demolition. This survey is more extensive than a management survey and is intended to locate all ACMs in the building, regardless of whether they are likely to be disturbed during normal use.
An Asbestos Management Plan is a document that outlines how the risk of exposure to asbestos will be managed in a building or structure. This plan should include information on how asbestos-containing materials will be identified, how the risk of exposure will be assessed, and how any identified risks will be controlled or eliminated.
An Asbestos Register is a record of all asbestos-containing materials in a building or structure. This register should be updated regularly to reflect any changes in the building or any new information about ACMs.
Re-inspection surveys are required under UK law for all buildings with ACMs. These surveys are intended to ensure that any ACMs in the building are still in good condition and that the risk of exposure is being effectively managed.
Any samples of suspected ACMs should be analysed by a UKAS-approved laboratory to ensure accurate results.
